Experienced coach Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan), has been appointed head coach of the national football team for a three-month term.
Shiyaz, who previously served as the team's assistant coach, will lead the squad in two upcoming matches against Sri Lanka next month. He will also be in charge during the Asian Cup qualifiers scheduled for October and November.
A holder of the prestigious AFC Pro License, Shiyaz's most recent role was with Club Eagles. He also served as one of the assistant coaches for the Maldivian national team during their victorious 2008 SAFF Championship campaign.
His most successful period in club football came with his family club, New Radiant, where he guided the team to an unbeaten season and the 2012 Dhivehi Premier League (DPL) title.
Although this is his first stint as head coach of the national team, he has previously held the position of technical director at the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
He succeeds Ali Suzain, who stepped down after the Asian Cup qualifier against Timor-Leste in June. Suzain now serves as chairman of FAM's Diamond Jubilee Committee.
