The National Athletics Championships 2025 (NAC) that was held from 14th August to 16th August saw two field event athletes; Hassan Shamoon and Aishath Shaim Azeez take the Best Athlete Award.
Shamoon, who is a part of the Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC), is one of the top throwing athletes in Maldives. This is his second time winning the Best Athlete Award, having first received the honor in 2016. He also secured the Best Athlete title at this year’s Association Cup.
Shamoon won Gold in the Discus and Shot Put events this year.

Shaim, who is a part of the Customs Recreation Club (CRC), won Gold in three separate events while also setting a new national record, earning her the Women's Best Athlete Award.
She won Gold in the Javelin Throw, High Jump and the Long Jump events. She set a new national record in the Long Jump event, breaking the 5.20 meter record with her own 5.24 meter record.
In previous years, the National Athletics Championship had always seen runners dominate the top spot. With Shamoon and Shaim both claiming first place this year, it marks the first time in the 34-year history of the championship that two field athletes have overtaken the runners.

The Men and Women's Division team events saw Track and Field take first place. Previously Track and Field over took DSC (last year's dominant force in the Men's Division Team Event) with 196 points, with DSC claiming 185 points.
Experienced coach Abdulla Ibrahim (Abulho) coached Track and Field, with the Women's Division claiming first with 206 points. CRC came in second with 186 points.
