Suzain appointed Chairperson of Diamond Jubilee Committee

Football Association of Maldives has created a committee to oversee preparations to celebrate 75 years of football in the Maldives and appointed experienced coach Ali Suzain to head the committee.

The first official football tournament in Maldives was held in 1950. In 2000, the Golden Jubilee of football in Maldives was marked with jubilant celebrations. A special tournament titled Golden Jubilee was held in Male', inviting teams from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

As the 75 year mark approaches, football in Maldives is in a dire situation. Football tournaments have come to a halt largely due to mismanagement and corruption within the FAM over the past years. Regardless, the newly appointed ExCo of FAM is working diligently to overcome these challenges, and revive football in the country.

In addition to Suzain, the Diamond Jubilee Committee consists of New Radiant Chairman Ahmed Mubeen, Club Valencia Chairman Abdulla Azmeen, MP for Dhihdhoo Abdul Latheef Mohamed.

The main objective of the committee it to organize a special football tournament to be held next year.

Suzain most recently served as coach for the National Team. Suzain, who has earned remarkable victories for clubs Maziya and Victory is also experienced in football management. He has also led many football related social initiatives.

Former MP of Regional Airports Mubeen is most well known in politics. In the field of football, his biggest undertaking now is to raise New Radiant back to the First Division.

Azmeen is one of Maldives' most well known football commentators, as well being an established sports journalist.

Latheef holds expertise in organizing sports and social activities. He has previously organized football tournaments, Quran competitions, music shows and other events in Dhihdhoo.
