FAM has requested an audit to be conducted by requesting assistance from the Auditor General in relation to the football school plot, along with the association taking steps towards the Maafannu Stadium warehouses issue, which was decided during last night's ExCo meeting.
In a statement issued to the media, FAM said that the plans to build a football school didn't move forward, and that many things were done against the rules concerning the land.
The Hulhumale' Phase 1 plot was given to FAM during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration with no rent payments, due to it being a social project. As FAM wanted to conduct business on the grounds as well, they requested for this change from the HDC during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration and were successful in doing so. FAM were required to pay rent once the changes went through. Due to FAM not paying rent at the time, HDC had sent them multiple notices as well, resulting in HDC taking the land back.
The Normalization Committee, which ran the FAM over the past year, said in a statement last month that the land had been leased commercially to various parties at a price per sqft below the required price. In a statement released by FAM's Normalization Committee, it was written that a long-term rental advance was also taken from FAM. However, the committee has said that that money has not gone to the FAM at all.
FAM also said in their public statement that the agreements concerning the rental of the Hulhumale' plot and the Maafannu Stadium warehouses could not be found at the hands of the association.
And so it was decided at the ExCo meeting that a public announcement would be made for copies of the agreement to be made and shared with FAM.
The ExCo has also decided on making a public announcement to temporarily stop any further progress on the buildings at the Maafannu Stadium, along with propping up a notice of the announcement in the area.
ExCo's ruling concerning the Hulhumale' plot and the Maafannu Stadium warehouses:
- An audit to be conducted at the Hulhumale' plot.
- Requesting assistance from the Auditor General for the audit itself.
- A public announcement to be made for FAM to acquire a copy of the agreement (all parties that partook in the rental of Hulhumale' plot for business purposes to be included in the copy of the agreement under a sublease basis).
- Construction to cease in the Maafannu Stadium area with a public announcement being made, along with notices being put up in the area.
