Rihan, Aan, mixed medley team breaks national record

Yesterday's Men's 200-metre butterfly heat event saw Rihan finish with a time of 02:25.20, with Aan completing today's Men's 100-metre freestyle event's fifth heat race in 53.80 seconds.

The World Aquatics Championship 2025 being hosted at Singapore saw Mohamed Rihan Shiham, Mohamed Aan Hussein and the mixed medley team break the long course record.

Yesterday's Men's 200-metre butterfly heat event saw Rihan finish with a time of 02:25.20, with him breaking his previous record as well, the record being 02:28.17 during the 2023 Asian Games.

Aan completed today's Men's 100-metre freestyle event's fifth heat race in 53.80 seconds, with him holding the previous record as well. After breaking his record at last years Asian Age Group Aquatics Championship, he went on to clock in a time of 54.46 seconds at the Malaysian Open Swimming Championship heat event.

The mixed medley set a record of 4:40.23 in the 4x100 meter race, a total of 8.28 seconds faster than the previous record. The team included Rihan, Aan, Meral Ayn Latheef and Amna Thazkiya Mirsad (Thazky).

The mixed medley events record was last broken in 2023, with the record being set twice within the same year. Last years championship saw a 2019 record being broken, with contestants Mubal Azzam Ibrahim, Ali Imaan, Hamna Ahmed and Hanan Hussein Haleem setting a record of 04:48.51.

The Maldivian nationals taking part in this championship have all set national records in the five events they've entered.

Meral set a time of 02:44:34 on the first day of the world championship for the women's 200-metre individual medley event. Thazkiya broke the long course 100-metre backstroke national record the next day, setting a time of 1:13.49.
