Green Streets, who earlier supported former Football Association of Maldives (FAM) President Bassam Adeel Jaleel for the FAM elections, has now decided to back his opponent Ahmed Thoriq (Tom).

Green Streets opted to back Bassam in both elections that FAM attempted to hold last year.

In the election FAM planned for January last year, Bassam himself did not contest, instead presenting Club Eagles Vice President Mufaviz Hashim (Mufa) as a candidate from his team.

At the time, Mufa ran with the endorsement of Green Streets. FIFA cancelled those elections following issues that arose with the cancellation of Thoriq's candidacy.

When the election was reattempted in March, Bassam put his name forward as a candidate against Thoriq. This time, too, Green Streets were behind Bassam. Green Streets' President Muaviyath Khaleel was an exco member during Bassam's last term in office.

Green Streets announced in a statement that they will be endorsing Thoriq now in Friday's congress as well as the subsequent election.
