Mohamed Abdul Sattar (Champi) has been re-elected yesterday for a second term as President of the Maldives Olympics Committee (MOC).
Sattar was appointed to the position without holding an election as there were no other candidates for the post.
When MOC opened applications for posts for the next four years, only Sattar, who is serving his fourth term as President of the Swimming Association, applied for this post.
Prior to being elected President of MOC, Sattar served as its Vice President. He was first elected as President in 2021, where he won against Badminton Association's former President Moosa Nashid.
The two Vice Presidents who were elected are Handball Association Maldives' former President Ahmed Ismail and Chess Association's candidate, General Secretary of Athletics Association Ahmed Munthagim.
Ahmed and Munthagim won the posts through competing against Athletics Association President Musthafa Mohamed.
The Olympics Committee's Exco has five associations from the category of olympic sports sitting in it. There are also two representatives from non-olympic sports. There are then female representatives.
Olympic Sports representatives are volley, basketball, tennis and table tennis, cricket and surfing. Non olympic sports representatives are body building and pool/billiard. Female representatives are from netball and shooting associations.
The exco then consists of two members from the Athlete Commission. The term of these members are set to end in December.
