Young Maldivian taekwondo athlete Yunus bin Mohamed Quraishi has won third place in the Hana Open Taekwondo Championship underway in Malaysia.

The Hana Open is the largest club-level taekwondo tournament in the country, featuring around 2,000 athletes from various regions.

Yunus competed in the 12 to 14-year age category, where 18 athletes contended for the title. Demonstrating strong form and skill, Yunus won three consecutive matches, advancing to the semi-final round.

However, during the semi-finals, Yunus sustained a shoulder injury. Despite this setback, he managed to win the first round of the semi-final match but was unable to maintain his performance in the following rounds due to the injury. As a result, he finished the tournament in third place.

Yunus previously won the gold medal at the Intra Club Kirgi Taekwondo Championship held in July 2023 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
