Seventeen individuals held at the Immigration Detention Center in Hulhumale' Phase 2 have been hospitalized due to food poisoning.

The detainees were taken to Hulhumale' Hospital last night for treatment.

Authorities, including police and the Maldives Immigration, are investigating the cause of the incident. However, it is yet unclear how the incident occurred.

"The immediate treatment of the affected expatriates is the top priority," Maldives Immigration stated in a post on X.

A spokesperson from Hulhumale' Hospital told Mihaaru News that the total number of cases is still uncertain, as more individuals continue to be admitted.
