Dh. Meedhoo has started off the Gold Cup journey strong, winning over Faresmathoda with a score of 1-4 in the team's first match.
Between the two group A teams, Meedhoo appeared stronger than Faresmathoda in every aspect. With a team comprising many under 23 players, they tried to dominate the game against Faresmathoda.
Meedhoo's Ibrahim Imran scored two goals for the team, who also scored the goal which gave the team a lead over their opponent. Mid half, the team's Eelaf Ahmed received the ball, which he dribbled forward and strategically forwarded to Ibrahim Imran, knowing it would be received.
Imran swiftly avoided an off-side and easily kicked the ball, scoring a goal. Meedhoo also widened the score gap before first half's end, with another goal scored by Muzudhan Hassan in the second minute of extra time.
Eelaf played an important role in this goal as well, assisting Muzudhan by passing the ball at the right time.
Meedhoo's third goal was a penalty towards the beginning of the second half. Imran scored for the team, strucking the penalty into the top corner of the goal post.
The final goal was scored by Hammam Rashad in the 69th minute.
Faresmathoda's first goal was scored by substitute player Shaishullah Ashraf in the extra time awarded following the full 90 minutes.
Tonight's match of the tournament will see group B's Th. Thimarafushi and Malé City face off against each other.
