The Minister of Sports Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu has stated that his government will not cease the construction of synthetic tracks previously planned by the government under the Line of Credit (LOC).

The previous administration had decided to build synthetic tracks on four islands in the north and south under the LOC: H.Dh Kulhudhuffushi, G.Dh Thinadhoo, Fuvahmulah, and S. Hithadhoo.

Speaking at the ceremony celebrating the accomplishments of Island Runners Maldives, Rafiu affirmed that the projects on these islands will proceed without interruption.

A line of credit is a type of loan that extends borrowing up to a predetermined limit. Even without gathering the required amount, the expenses for running a specific project alone can be covered from this credit line.

The synthetic track surrounding the cricket ground at Maafannu Stadium in the city has been constructed with Indian grants.

In addition to the synthetic tracks, the previous government had also committed to funding the renovation of Galolhu Stadium under the LOC. However, whether the official ground will be relocated or not will be determined in coordination with other government agencies, Rafiu stated in a previous interview.
