Maldives Olympic Committee President Mohamed Abdul Sattar (Champi) has been elected Vice-President of the Organising Committee (CIJ) of the Indian Ocean Island Games for a second term.
Sattar was first elected as the Vice-President of the Sports Federation of the Indian Ocean island nations in 2020.
Before his election as Vice-President, Sattar, who also holds the position of president within the swimming association, collaborated with the members of the CIJ's executive committee.
Following the Maldives' submission of bids for the 2023 Games, the CIJ members, who had undertaken an assessment visit to gauge the situation in the Maldives, arrived in Malé city. During their visit, they engaged with government institutions. Notably, Sattar, who held the position of Vice-President of the Olympic Committee at that time, actively participated in these meetings.
Having completed two terms as Vice-President, Sattar ascended to the position of President of the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC). In the 2021 elections, Sattar, who is the brother of the renowned businessman Champa Mohamed Moosa, assumed the role of President of the Olympic Committee.
The CIJ congress, which took place in Moroni, the capital city of Comoros, where the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games are slated to be hosted, were held yesterday. Among the attendees were MOC Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed and CWG officer Ibrahim Eman.
