Incumbent President of Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Bassam Adeel provides no clear answer on whether he may run in the next FAM election for a third term.

Earlier, Bassam had made it clear that he would not contest the elections that the FAM had tried to hold on January 31. FIFA had ordered the elections to be halted as there were electoral committees within FAM, and instructed the association to form the committees.

The election committees were formed by FAM in a congress meeting held on Thursday.

"In the future, when elections are sorted out, if I am asked, I will give any answer. Right now, I have not made a decision in any certain way." - President of FAM, Bassam Adeel

The FAM is now preparing set up executive committee meetings and to decide on the dates for new elections. When asked whether he would contest the elections to be announced later, Bassam did not give a clear answer.

He said he had not thought about it in any particular way yet. He, however, hinted that he would go ahead if the member clubs requested for it.

"What I have always repeatedly pointed out is that I will always stand by (FAM)'s member clubs if asked they asked for it," Bassam said when asked if he would contest the election that is to be re-announced.

He added that the next course of action would be for exco to announce the voting dates and he would make a decision when the time comes to filling nominations.

“[I] will know how to proceed only after that,” Bassam said.

He, however, added that he is yet to decide on a different approach from what was decided earlier. Bassam said that at the moment, his priority is to look into the affairs of the FAM in such a way that a free and fair new election would be held.

"I still haven’t thought about what I'm going to do. I'm just thinking about how FAM will proceed. To decide on the date on which the FAM elections will be held," Bassam said when repeatedly asked.

"In the future, when elections are sorted out, if I am asked, I will give any answer. Right now, I have not made a decision in any certain way."
