Club Green Streets has informed the FAM that they have decided not to play in the remainder of the ongoing Dhivehi Premier League.

On Wednesday, a Green Streets official said they had decided not to compete in the league because the previous government had discriminated against clubs in funding them. Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration distributed MVR 1 million to each first division club among the clubs, while the then Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof paid different clubs to varying degrees.

Maziya, Eagles, Super United Sports and Buru Sports were given MVR 1 million each. But Green, Valencia, TC Sports and United were given MVR 250,000 each.

Club Valencia also officially announced their withdrawal from the league some time back. With this, the matches that the club is scheduled to play will be available to other clubs.

Green Streets had already decided not to play in the Premier League, which began after almost 80 days. However, it was "made official" by the club in a letter sent to the FAM last night.

"We received the letter last night. There is talk in the city about the decision to withdraw from the league due to the financial situation," said Hussain Jawaz, General Secretary of FAM.

Green's letter, he said, would be sent to the relevant committee. As per the schedule, Green Streets is tabled to take on Buru Sports today.

Jawaz said the committee will take a call today as the match was scheduled to be played today.

"It is highly likely that the matches will be forfeited. Once the committee decides, we will make an official announcement," he said.

With Valencia and Green out of the league, there are only six teams competing in the next league. No team is expected to be relegated from the league this year.
