Record breaking start to Inter-School Athletics Championship

Ahuna Nizar of Jalaluddin School sets a national record in the triple jump event at the Inter-School Athletics Championships that began on Sunday, May 14.

The tournament, held at the synthetic track in Hulhumalé, Ahuna set a national record of 10.63 meters in the under 17 women's triple jump, surpassing the previous record of 10.47 meters set by Noora Abdul Waheed at the Athletics Association Championships in March.

Hanaan Ahmed Zahir from Rehendhi School came in second place in the triple jump event with a jump of 8.71 meters. Mariyam Nooyan Niyaz from Kandohulhudhoo School finished third, jumping a distance of 8.68 meters.

As many as 1,495 athletes from 47 schools are competing in the inter-school athletics competition, which will continue till May 19.

Yoosuf Nihal Ahmed from Muhyiddin School secured the top spot in the under 15 boys discus throw event, with a distance of 23.06 meters. Abdullah Yaish Ahmed from Rehendhi School took the second position, throwing the discus to a distance of 21 meters. Mohamed Shiban Bin Sherin from Iskandar School claimed the third spot with a throw of 17.36 meters.

Luyuna Hassan Ahmed of Gaafu Alifu atoll Dhaandhoo School won first place in the under 15 women's long jump event with a jump of 4.20 meters. Eelaf Abdul Latheef of Imaduddin School got the second position with a jump of 3.93 meters and Aminath Layaa Ibrahim of Laamu Atoll School took third place with a jump of 3.90 meters.

Mohamed Shizan Farooq from Laamu Atoll School claimed the top spot in the under 17 boys shot put throw event. Meesam Mohamed Abdul Razzaq from Rehendhi School came in second and Mohamed Anoof Afeef from Laamu Atoll School finished in third place.

Kausar Adam from Addu High School came in first place in the under 20 girls discus throw event. Malha Mohamad Madi from Ahmadiyya International School secured the second position, while Shaavin Nisha Selvaraj Albin from the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) claimed the third spot.

Adam Zaan Yazmeen from Shaviyani atoll Milandhoo School took first place in the boys under 13 long jump event. Yuan Akhtar Zahir from Ghiyasuddin International School secured the second position, while Ali Shail Asim from Addu City Hithadhoo School came in third place.

Aishath Iman Ahmed Nizar from Laamu atoll Mundoo School won first place in the girls under 13 hardball throw event. Mariyam Raula Sameer from Billabong High International School secured the second place, while Aishath Ilya Binth Mohamed from Rehendhi School achieved the third place.
