The opposition coalition has expressed concern on Saturday over the Maldivian government's failure to condemn the atrocities committed against Muslims in Madhya Pradesh, India.

In a statement made by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC), they said that the Indian government has been committing anti-Muslim acts against laws and international conventions. Condemning the actions of the Indian government, the coalition has said "These actions are unacceptable."

The coalition said the Indian government and police are encouraging people to take part in the activities of Hindu groups to abuse Muslims and damage the sanctity of mosques and their homes as well.

Police have also razed the homes of Muslims accused of involvement in the violence. Regional police has stated that it was to punish those who were involved in the violence.

The opposition coalition therefore calls on the Maldivian government to condemn these activities and to bring it to the international community's attention.

"The Maldivian people will not accept that the government of our 100 percent Muslim country for not condemning the Indian government's inhuman acts against Muslims. Therefore the coalition calls on the Maldivian government to take the lead in bringing these matters to the attention of the international community," they said.

Violence against Muslims have increased after recent unrest between India's Muslim and Hindu communities. Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Singh Chouhan has been accused of instigating these activities to win Hindu voters.

The opposition has always expressed concern over the Maldivian government's failure to combat the atrocities committed against Muslims in India. A campaign has also been launched calling for the evacuation of Indian military personnel from the Maldives by the PPM/PNC coalition.
