The two national female table tennis doubles pairs, on Wednesday, secured an impressive gold and silver medal finish against at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2019.

The two pairs consist of the young duo Aishath Rafa Nazim and Aishath Dheema and the more experienced Mueena Mohamed and Fathimath Jumana.

This is the third gold medal achievement for Maldives at an international multi-sporting event and the second since Hussain Saaid's historic gold at IOIG 2015 in the men's 100-meter sprint, closely followed by the gold achieved by the four in the team table tennis team event on Sunday.

In order to achieve the target of acquiring 15 medals this year, Maldives Olympic Association, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, and various sports associations together facilitated special training for the teams.
