Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu has said that construction of the new school being built in Hulhumale' Phase 2 will be completed within the year, with the school expected to be in operation for the following academic year.

The building of the school was contracted to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC), with the foundation having been laid in December 2023.

Minister Shafeeu visited the site yesterday to inspect progress. He said that construction work on the school would be completed by November this year. The school is expected to be opened for the academic year scheduled to start in January 2026.

Grades 1 to 10 will be taught at the school, with the school designed to teach in a single session. With 57 classrooms, it is being built to accommodate 1700 students.

Minister Shafeeu has previously said that work will commence on the building of two new schools in Hulhumale' this year. He said then that the exact location of the schools had not been decided upon thus far.

Shafeeu said that with the POLCO, SIFCO and Rainbow Flats in Hulhumale' Phase 1, a new school is needed to cater to these as well. Hence, the plan now is to build one school in Hulhumale' Phase 1 and one in Hulhumale' Phase 2, he said.
