With the end to his term at the Elections Commission (EC), Fuad Thaufeeq, who served as President of the Commission, has been nominated for the position of Maldives' Ambassador to Thailand.
With the end to his term at the Elections Commission (EC), Fuad Thaufeeq, who served as President of the Commission, has been nominated for the position of Maldives' Ambassador to Thailand.
Fuad's name has now been sent to parliament for approval.
Fuad's second term at the EC came to an end last Saturday. As per the EC regulations, a member cannot serve more than two terms at the commission.
With the Elections Commission being formed with the introduction of the New Constitution, Fuad first served as a member of the interim commission. He then served as its President. With the Commission being established, Fuad served as its President from November 2009 to March 2014.
In September 2021, he began serving a second term at the commission, once again leading it as President.
