Police made a welfare check after receiving reports of a person staying at a guesthouse in Maafannu ward of Male' City having been out of contact, and discovered him lying injured in his room at the guesthouse.
The man was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
The two arrested in the case today have been identified as Ahmed Mazin Ibrahim, 23, of Ma. Vohkolhu, Male', and Fauzan Zareer, 23, of Paris, K. Thulusdhoo.
Police said that the two were arrested under a court order, on charges of having committed the assault.
The court has placed both in remand in custody until the end of trial.
