Police made a welfare check this morning after receiving reports of a person staying at a guesthouse in Maafannu ward of Male' City having been out of contact, and discovered him lying injured in his room at the guesthouse.
The man is currently receiving medical care in the Intensive Care Unit at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
A Police Media Official told Mihaaru News that investigations so far indicate that the man had been assaulted. However, Police have not as of yet revealed details of the injuries sustained.
A video of Police taking the man out of the guesthouse on a stretcher is being circulated on social media. While only his face is visible, with the rest of him covered with a white sheet, the video shows that his face is heavily swollen.
Police said that their officers are at the scene conducting further investigations.
