The government has decided to seek the assistance of Dubai to mitigate traffic congestion in the Greater Male' region.

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen said in a post on social media platform X that he had met with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to discuss plans for decongesting Greater Male'.

Minister Ameen said that RTA would provide technological assistance under an agreed framework plan.

RTA will work to reduce traffic congestion utilizing its technology and experience, he said.

At an earlier press conference held by the Transport Ministry, Minister Ameen said that traffic congestion in the Male' area is a rising concern for many people. In January this year, Minister Ameen said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will engage with countries like the UAE and Singapore, known for successfully managing global traffic challenges, to bring in experts for a comprehensive analysis of the issue.

He requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to bring in these experts bilaterally and have them stay in the Maldives for a thorough study and solution implementation.

In the span of five years, a total of 69,780 new vehicles were registered, with over 42,000 registered in Malé City, the Ministry said.
