Parliament is scheduled to vote on parliamentary approval of cabinet ministers at 13:30hrs today.

Debate on the Committee findings regarding the issue was held this morning, with majority party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), as well as The Democrats, stating their decision to not grant approval to some ministers.

Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), as well as government leaning Jumhoori Party (JP) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) urged for approval to be granted to all cabinet ministers.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Saleem said that ministerial posts should not be granted as "favours or gifts", calling for amendments to the Constitutional articles relating to the matter.

Henveiru Central MP Ali Azim stated that it would prove difficult to approve all ministers, claiming that government actions contradict their campaign rhetoric, and that it is the duty of all members to find alternatives to this.

While The Democrats have released a statement earlier today stating their decision to not grant approval to some cabinet ministers, they have not yet specified which ministers this will be.

MDP's parliamentary group meeting to decide on the matter is currently ongoing.
