The Democrats has decided that it will vote against granting parliamentary approval to some members of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet of ministers.

Parliamentary approval to ministers is on the agenda for today's extraordinary sitting of the parliament.

In a statement released today, The Democrats stated that the party finds some policies put forward by President Dr Muizzu's administration deeply concerning, resulting in their decision to withhold parliamentary approval for some members of the current cabinet.

However, the party has not yet revealed which cabinet members they intend to refuse approval to.

"As an opposition parliamentary group, this parliamentary group will act with complete responsibility and honesty. These are the principles upon which this parliamentary group will act even in the matter of granting parliamentary approval to cabinet ministers," the statement reads.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which holds parliamentary majority, has also previously stated that it will be voting against granting parliamentary approval to some ministers.

Mihaaru News reports that the party will reach a final decision on the matter during a parliamentary group meeting slated to be held at 1000hrs today.

MDP and The Democrats have announced that they will be collaborating in parliamentary work to hold the current administration accountable.
