Ministry of Education has begun distributing textbooks to schools in preparation for the new academic year, which starts on Monday.

With schools reopening soon, many parents have raised concerns about delays in receiving textbooks.

A media official from the Education Ministry told Mihaaru News that books have already been distributed to schools in Male'.

However, there have been delays in sending textbooks to islands in Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls. The ministry confirmed that shipments carrying these books have been dispatched to Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, and the islands in these two atolls.

Books for other atolls have already been delivered.

Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu assured that all students will receive their complete set of textbooks before schools reopen.

He said that efforts have been made to ensure that students receive their books in full this year.

The previous academic year ended on February 25, with the school holidays coinciding with Ramadan.

While the academic year typically begins on a Sunday, this year, due to the extended Eid holidays, schools will reopen on Monday.

The new academic year is scheduled to conclude on December 28.
