Civil Court has ruled on Sunday that Football Association of Maldives (FAM) must pay MVR 776,000 (USD 50,000) in a case related to a cheque they issued as payment to a private company having bounced.

MS Finance Currency Exchange filed the case against FAM in August, 2022 after a cheque of USD 50,000 that FAM issued to them to settle a loan of MVR 771,000 bounced. In the case, they also sought the MVR 100,000 that had to be spend on legal representation as the matter had to be taken to court.

Sunday's Civil Court ruling against FAM was made in absentia.

The ruling said that the documentary evidence proves that the money had not been paid, as such FAM is ordered to settle the MVR 771,000 owed to MS Finance and the MVR 5000 spent on trial within the next 30 days.

FAM, which is in major financial turmoil over the past months, has had a number of other rulings against them where they owe money to different entities.

In addition to this, FIFA has also suspended FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel for a period of 9 months in relation to the investigation initiated by the Prosecutor General's Office into allegations that senior FAM officials had misappropriated FIFA issued funds in corruption, money laundering and other criminal offences. The State has pressed charges against Bassam in Criminal Court.
