Tree Top Hospital has announced the launch of peritoneal dialysis, a treatment option for kidney failure that can be performed at home or any convenient location.

The hospital revealed that this service would be introduced during the visit of Dr. Ivan Neretljak, a urology and transplant surgery specialist, who will be available for consultations from November 25th to 28th. Dr. Neretljak specializes in procedures such as peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion and hemodialysis fistula operations, including creation and repair.

Peritoneal dialysis serves as an alternative to hemodialysis, commonly used by kidney failure patients in the Maldives. Unlike hemodialysis, which requires hospital visits, this method allows patients to perform dialysis independently using the peritoneal lining of the abdomen. Tree Top Hospital highlighted this as a significant advancement for the Maldives, offering patients flexibility and convenience by eliminating the need for regular hospital trips.

To support this new service, Dr. Neretljak, along with Tree Top Hospital’s experienced nephrology team, will provide free counseling and educational sessions for patients. These sessions will include guidance on catheter insertion and instructions for managing treatment at home.

Patients interested in learning more about peritoneal dialysis can register for free counseling by contacting Tree Top Hospital’s call center at 3351610 or emailing [email protected]. The hospital will arrange session dates based on patient availability, ensuring personalized attention.

Tree Top Hospital also noted that the costs for peritoneal dialysis and related procedures would be covered at affordable rates under military and police health insurance, as well as private insurance packages.

This initiative aims to provide a practical, patient-friendly solution for those dealing with kidney failure while expanding the range of treatment options available in the Maldives.
