Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), on Sunday, was contracted to develop a harbor area in Komandoo, Shaviyani Atoll as well as the breakwaters of Maabaidhoo, Laamu Atoll for a sum of MVR 45.8 million.
The agreement binding the projects was signed at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure, by MTCC's Chief Operating Officer Shahid Hussain Moosa and Director-General of the planning ministry Shaana Farooq.
Per the contract, a total of MVR 29.4 million is allocated for Komandoo's harbor development, stipulating that MTCC must complete the project within one year.
Overall, the project will consist of dredging and excavation work, a 12-meter long breakwater, 20-meter long of revetment, and a 190-meter key wall. A ramp, interlocking pavements, 10 mooring blocks, two navigational masts and 19 harbour lights will also be installed in Komandoo.
Further, according to the agreement, the company must conclude construction efforts in Maabaidhoo within two months. A total of MVR 16.4 million is allocated for this portion of the project, which includes the construction of a 204-meter long breakwater, 74-meter long revetment, and two harbour lights.
Both aforementioned projects were included under the 2019 State Budget.
