Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan has said that all previous government leaders would be imprisoned if he, in his capacity as Minister, exerted influence over the Maldives Police Service.

Ihusan made these comments in parliament today while responding to allegations raised against him in a no confidence motion submitted against him with the signatures of the twelve opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MPs.

Some of the allegations raised against Ihusan is that he exerts political influence over police investigations, obstructs investigations involving government affiliated persons, and obstructs police from fulfilling their duties.

Ihusan rejected these allegations as baseless, adding that were he to exert political influence, then all leaders of the previous administration would be in jail.

Ihusan went on to say that those leaders were not free because they had not committed crimes, adding that the State is investigating cases against them within the boundaries of the Police Act.

He dismissed the claims that he obstructed investigations involving the government and affiliated persons and said that even at present, there are investigations ongoing into many government agencies. This includes wrongful sale of fuel from FSM, HDC's corruption case and cases involving Corrections and immigration.
