Two individuals were arrested while they travelling via sea after stealing money using another person's cash card.
Police said that the cash card belonged to an elderly woman from Gaafu Alif atoll Vilin'gili. Her cash card had been stolen, and was used to withdraw money from an ATM in another island, Maamendhoo, in the same atoll.
Once the matter was reported to Police, police conducted an operation through which the two were arrested while enroute to Vilin'gili.
Search of the speedboat they were travelling on led the police to find MVR 23,000 of the MVR 25,000 they had stolen through using the cash card.
The two arrested in this case are Mohamed Shain Shameez, 22, Vilin'gili, and Hamdhoon Haleel, 24, Laamu atoll Gan.
Police said that the case is being investigated further.
