President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to allocate a camping island for Scouts and Girl Guides before the end of his presidential term.

President Solih made the pledge while addressing the Scouts and Girl Guides from the Maldivian contingent who are set to participate in the 25th World Scout Jamboree scheduled for August 1 in South Korea.

During the event, President Solih said that the Scout Association and the Girl Guide Association had raised several important issues at the beginning of his administration. He said that the government's efforts to to address these requests were delayed due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

One of the requests made by the associations included the provision of an island where the Scouts and Girl Guides could camp and participate in outdoor activities.

President Solih, affirmed that an island will be provided for camping trips and similar activities during his current presidential term.

"I assure you that we will dedicate an island for your camping activities and entrust it to the Education Ministry," President Solih said.

This year, the Maldives is sending a contingent of 425 individuals including 193 scouts, 22 scout leaders, 21 contingent management members, 23 international service team members, 149 girl guides, 15 guide leaders, 4 contingent team members.

The jamboree is set to take place from August 1 to 12 in SaeManGeum, Jeollabuk-do, marking the second time that the Korea Scout Association will be the host. The association previously hosted the 17th World Scout Jamboree in 1991.

The 25th World Scout Jamboree is expected to welcome a total of 50,000 scouts from over 170 different countries.
