30 tonne ice plant to be built in Bandidhoo

Foundation has been laid today to build an ice plant in the island of Bandidhoo in Dhaalu atoll.

The foundation was laid this afternoon by Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam who visit the island accompanying President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on his ongoing visit to the atoll.

The island in Bandidhoo will have a 30 tonne capacity.

A high number of youth from Bandidhoo are engaged in fisheries, with the island having 21 fishing vessels used for yellowfin tuna fishing. However, fishermen on the island have long struggled due to the lack of an ice plant nearby.
