Mohamed Khaleel was appointed to the Economic Council today.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed his tourism advisor, Mohamed Khaleel, to the Economic Council.
Khaleel is the Managing Director of Pulse, which operates tourist resorts in the Maldives on a wide scale. He is also a shareholder of Manta Air.
His appointment to the Council comes at a time when Pulse has opposed to the recent regulations requiring tourist facilities to exchange dollars via Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
President Dr. Muizzu said tonight that he will not reverse the regulations on that matter.
The president also said that the benefits of resorts and guesthouses continuing to exchange dollars through local banks starting January next year were determined after conducting technical studies.
