Maldives welcomes half a million tourists so far in 2025

The most prominent source market this year is China, with 63,000 tourist arrivals recorded since the start of the year. Second is the UK and Russia.

As of now, this year has seen Maldives welcome 500,000 tourists.

Statistics shared by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment show that as of now, an average of 7100 tourist arrivals are recorded daily, which is a 4.6 percent improvement from last year. Last year, the same period saw 470,000 tourist arrivals.

The most prominent source market this year is China, with 63,000 tourist arrivals recorded since the start of the year. Second is the UK and Russia.

Of the 500,000 arrivals, 345,000 booked stays in resorts. This is 69 percent of total arrivals. 127,000 tourists came to stay in guesthouses.

While the total number of tourist arrivals so far this year shows an increase compared to last year, February saw 1.5 percent less arrivals than the same period in 2024. However, arrivals in January were 11 percent higher than the previous year.

The last two months being in the peak season, each month saw over 200,000 tourists visiting. The government's target is to achieve 2.2 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
