Ibrahim Ikram has been sentenced to three months in prison and fined MVR 70,000 for speeding in Hulhumale' Phase two that resulted in a bystander being seriously injured.

The incident, which took place in July last year, involved Ikram losing control of the speeding sports car, colliding with a bystander on a parked motorcycle, and causing significant injuries to the individual.

Ikram who was driving the car was arrested alongside two passengers, Ikramurrahman and Jinah Ismail, with the car being in the possession of Jinah.

Ikram pleaded guilty to the charges and entered into a plea agreement with the prosecution. During the expedited trial, the Criminal Court found Ikram guilty and handed down the sentence, which included the three-month prison term and the fine.

Additionally, Ikram had already spent over three months in custody during the trial period and is no longer liable for jail time.

Both Ikram and the prosecution confirmed that Ikram had paid MVR 118,000 in compensation to the injured man.

Ikram faced multiple charges, and the court issued the following sentences:

While Ikram pleaded guilty, the other two individuals, Ikramurrahman and Jinah Ismail, denied the charges against them. The prosecution presented evidence against the two.

Jinah faces four charges, including complicity in causing injury, complicity in causing great bodily harm through reckless conduct, and two counts of complicity in property damage.

After the accident, the three men attempted to leave the scene, leading to their arrest. Ikram was initially remanded in custody pending trial but was released by the High Court before being arrested again under another court order, which extended his remand.
