Parliament has today approved the appointment of Human Rights Commission of Maldives member Moomina Waheed as the commission's Vice President.
The post of HRCM's Vice President became vacant following Dr Ahmed Adhuham, who previously held the post, resigning.
Moomina was approved for the post unanimously by all MPs who voted.
She was appointed as a member of HRCM in 2020. Prior to that, she served as Acting Secretary of the commission.
Moomina holds a Masters degree in Criminology from the University of Sydney and a Masters in Human Rights and Democratization (Asia Pacific). She also previously worked as a Development Consultant at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
Besides Moomina, current members of HRCM are Commission President Mariyam Muna, Aminath Shifa-ath Abdul Razzaq, Samau Ahmed Najeeb and Ismail Habeeb.
