Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to postpone the draw for the allocation of kiosks built in the area where huts providing short eats were previously located in Hulhumale' Phase 2.

A total of 183 people applied for the 20 kiosks. The draw was originally scheduled for 10:00 hrs today.

HDC media official Aanifa Hussain, speaking with Mihaaru News said that the draw was postponed was due to concerns raised by applicants.

However, a new date for the draw has not yet been announced. “Some applicants visited the information counter at HDC after their kiosk applications were rejected,” she said.

Applicant Requirements:

1. Must be a Maldivian aged 18 or older

2. Must be the owner or resident of a Hiyaa flat

3. Must have all dues paid to HDC

4. All kiosk operations must be conducted by Maldivians (employment of expatriates is prohibited)

Aanifa said that applications would be deemed ineligible if there are any outstanding payments for flats or premises rented for commercial purposes. Some applications were rejected due to non-payment of dues to HDC.

Previously, some residents of the Hiyaa flats constructed huts between the housing towers and operated businesses without permits.

When HDC removed these huts, food businesses began operating on the beach area in front of the housing towers using makeshift structures. However, these huts were also dismantled and kiosks were constructed in the area.
