Following forecasts of severe weather conditions during the upcoming days, Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has made sandbags available at three locations across Male' to help protect against damages during potential floods.

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has forecasted adverse weather in the coming days. In response, police, MNDF, and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have initiated a joint operation to mitigate potential damage from heavy rainfall.

Chief of Defense Force Ibrahim Hilmy announced at a press conference held at Iskandharu Koshi today that sandbags would be accessible at three designated locations in Male' including Kudakudhinge Bageecha (Children's Park), Salman Mosque area, and Rasfannu.

Police Commissioner Ali Shujau said that over 56 households had already received sandbags.

NDMA CEO Hisan Hassan said that arrangements would be made for additional households should they request more sandbags.

"In addition, sandbags will be placed at key locations at various times throughout today," he said.

NDMA has also urged the public to call their emergency hotline, 115, for assistance during any emergency situations.

Earlier this month, heavy rains caused significant flooding in Male' and other islands, with Male' City being the worst affected.
