More than two million tourists are expected to visit the Maldives by the end of this year, according to the latest statistics from the Tourism Ministry.
As of December 11, a total of 1,899,884 tourists had arrived in the Maldives so far this year. Despite a slight decline in arrivals during the peak tourism season that began this month, the country has been receiving an average of 5,659 tourists per day in December.
To meet the two million tourist target, an additional 100,116 arrivals are required. If the current daily arrival trend continues, Maldives is projected to welcome a total of 2,013,064 tourists by the end of the month.
In comparison, 1,747,370 tourists visited the Maldives in 2023.
This year, China has topped the list of tourist arrivals with 256,197 visitors, moving up from third place last year. Russia is the second-largest source market, followed by the United Kingdom and Germany. India, which led the rankings last year, has dropped to sixth place.
