Primary elections for the vacant positions of President and Vice President are scheduled for February 15, with nominations open until Thursday.
Imthiyaz Fahmy (Inthi) has announced his decision to contest for the position of President of The Democrats.
The post became vacant following the resignation of former Henveiru West MP Hassan Latheef, who left the party to rejoin the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The Democrats' Vice President, Mohamed Shifaz, has also joined MDP.

In a post on X, Imthiyaz stated that he has decided to contest for party President and has therefore resigned from his role as the party's spokesperson.
According to The Democrats’ general regulations, if the President's post becomes vacant, one of the Vice Presidents assumes the role temporarily.
Former Madaveli MP Hussain Firushan is currently serving as the party’s Acting President.
