Police are investigating the incident in Hulhumale' where a fire broke out at a residence, resulting in causing burn injuries to a 13 year old boy.
A police media official said today that they had initiated the investigation on first having received reports of the incident last Thursday.
The investigation will look into how the child came to suffer burns, he said.
It has been reported that the fire broke out when the child had turned on the gas knob on a stove and lit a lighter after a few minutes to light up the stove. At this point, gas had heavily leaked into the air, causing a loud explosion and flames.
The child sustained 50 percent burn injuries in the incident and continues to receive treatment at the Hulhumale' Hospital.
The incident was not reported to MNDF Fire and Rescue at the time.
