A team from China has arrived in Maldives to conduct necessary surveys before the designing process for the development of roads in Male' and ViliMale'.
The development of roads in the Male' region was a project that was initiated during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's official visit to China. The project will be conducted through a USD 100 million grant provided by the government of China.
In a post on social media platform X, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure said that the team of experts from China had arrived in Maldives on last Sunday to conduct feasibility studies of the roads in Male' and ViliMale'.
A technical team from the ministry met with the Chinese team yesterday.
According to the Construction Ministry, the site survey will proceed from today until November 21. The designs of the roads will be drafted based on this survey.
President Muizzu has earlier said that this project will lead to ease of travel on Male' streets, as well as provide a solution to the consistent issue of flooding during rains.
Under the road development program, a stormwater management system will also be set up.
