The attack occurred as two masked individuals wearing helmets followed Mariyam from Majeedhee Magu before throwing black oil at her.
Police said that they received report of the incident at 1:06 a.m. and are investigating the case.
The President’s family has decided to sue Mariyam over remarks made at a recent rally regarding President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s eldest son.
During the protest, Mariyam alleged that the government’s ban on vapes was due to Umair using them. The President’s family has denied the claim.
First Lady Sajidha held a press conference on Saturday addressing the matter, stating that their son does not and has never smoked vape or tobacco in any way.
The statement said that due to differences in political ideology with the President, false statements regarding their son is being circulated. She alleged that in this, the remarks made adversely affect the children's education, future and social development.
As every child is protected under Maldivian laws, the First Lady said that MDP's remarks contravene this and affect the children's reputation and dignity.
Hence, as a mother, she is forced to take this action, the statement reads.
