Civil Service Commission (CSC)'s Vice President Ibrahim Rasheed has resigned.

His resignation comes as Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions has begun efforts seeking his dismissal.

Upon his resignation, the CSC extended thanks for his service over the years.

Rasheed was appointed to CSC in September, 2020.

The committee yesterday approved forwarding the motion to the parliament floor for a final decision.

The allegations against Rasheed include complaints from CSC employees over recruitment issues and claims that Rasheed maintains close ties with opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leaders and members.

Under parliament regulations, the removal of a member of an independent institution requires committee approval before being sent to the floor. The chair of the sitting must then announce the matter and refer it back to the committee for a final decision.
