Government appoints Azeema as HC to India, Sareer as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

Maldives government has appointed Aishath Azeema as the new High Commissioner to India and Ahmed Sareer as the Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Both diplomats bring extensive experience in foreign diplomacy, having served in the field for many years.

Azeema and Sareer were presented with their letters of appointment at a ceremony held at the President's Office today.

Azeema began her career in public service in the Maldives in 1988, shortly after completing her GCE O' Levels. She has also served as the Maldives Ambassador to China from 2019 to 2023. She last served as the Additional Secretary, overseeing the India Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Until his appointment, Sareer served as Ambassador-at-Large at the Foreign Ministry. Sareer has previously been based in Saudi Arabia as the Asia Director for Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, Sareer was appointed Foreign Secretary. Before this, he was the Permanent Representative of Maldives to the UN from December 10, 2012.

Sareer has been working in foreign diplomacy since 1986, having filled various positions at a number of diplomatic missions since then.
