Since the launch of the crackdown last year, over 5,000 expatriates have been deported, including those engaged in illegal business activities and individuals who had been residing in Maldives for years without valid visas.
Operation Kurangi was launched in May last year to collect biometric data from expatriates across the country. So far, biometric information from 25,483 expatriates has been recorded.
