Maldives Immigration detained 46 expatriates in a large-scale operation conducted yesterday in Kaafu Atoll Huraa to identify and apprehend individuals living in the country illegally.

With heightened enforcement efforts in Male', some individuals have attempted to evade authorities by fleeing to other islands.
Recently, 60 expatriate workers from Emerald Maldives Resort and Spa in Raa atoll fled to Maduvvari. The case is under investigation by Immigration in collaboration with the police.

Since the launch of the crackdown last year, over 5,000 expatriates have been deported, including those engaged in illegal business activities and individuals who had been residing in Maldives for years without valid visas.
Operation Kurangi was launched in May last year to collect biometric data from expatriates across the country. So far, biometric information from 25,483 expatriates has been recorded.
