President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today approved the setting up of health centres in the six wards of capital Male' City, as well as in the atolls.
These centres will provide primary health care and general practitioner services.
The decision was made in yesterday's Cabinet meeting, based on discussions held on a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Health.
The President instructed that this decision be implemented before the end of the year, through collaboration by the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social and Family Development.
In order to expedite the introduction of this service and to minimize cost, the President proposed that existing infrastructure be used to house the centres.
This, he said, would have a positive impact on shortening waiting times for patients to consult specialists as well as in seeking other medical services.
