Finance Ministry has said the Ramadan Allowance have to be paid by March 28.
In a circular released by the ministry, they reminded employers that all Muslim employees have to be paid an additional MVR 3,000 as Ramadan allowance. If the person has more than one jobs, the allowance will have to be paid by the person’s primary job.
Government employees on paid leave or no-pay leave during Ramadan will not receive Ramadan Allowance. However if they resume work during Ramadan, they have to receive the amount equal to the time they would be spending back at work.
If an employee resigns from their job during Ramadan, Finance Ministry has ordered for the money to be collected from the employee as well.
Government institutions that use the state’s accounting software have been instructed to post the allowance vouchers on Thursday.
