The State has pressed charges against the driver of a car involved in an accident in Hulhumale' where a car and motorcycle collided, and the car ran over a man.
The accident occurred last April in Hulhumale' on the road west of the Ooredoo Building. A car and motorcycle crashed, causing the rider and passenger of the motorcycle to fall, and being run over.
The passenger and rider of the motorcycle were Bangladeshi nationals. The passenger, Sheikh Shuwaib, sustained serious injuries in the accident, while the rider, Mas'ud Rana, lost his life.
In this case, the driver of the car, Mausoom Haleem of Kethi, Kaafu atoll Kaashidhoo, has three charges against him. This includes causing death by negligence, causing injury and damaging property.
Prosecutor General's Office said that the charges of causing death by negligence and causing injury are pressed due to failing to signal when turning onto the street, crashing with a motorcycle which attempted to overtake the car, running over Mas'ud through reversing at a high speed while he was under the car, which caused severe injuries and subsequently his death.
The damage to property charge is being pressed due to failure to control the car and colliding with the motorcycle, and crashing into a parked car in the area, causing damage.
