Maldives Police Service on Sunday, released a public summons for Dr Azra Naseem over her involvement in writing Maldivian Democratic Network (MDN)'s controversial report 'Preliminary Assessment of Radicalization in the Maldives'.

Since Dr Azra's whereabouts remain unknown to her family, the Police were unable to handover the chit summoning her for questioning.

She was urged to present herself at the Police Headquarters on November 5.

MDN is currently under suspension regarding the report released in 2015 which criticized the Maldivian education system, claiming that Islamic textbooks encouraged extremism. Police are investigating written accounts included in the report that allegedly contradict the tenets of Islam.

Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed previously declared that authorities are investigating the matter as a high-priority case and would not hesitate to implement proper measures in fulfilling their lawful duties.

CP Hameed has come under public criticism within the movement calling to ban MDN and has received death threats over the matter. Criticizers highlight that since the Commissioner previously worked at the NGO, it could interfere with the investigation.

According to local media reports, those involved in the compilation of the report are no longer in the country. MDN Founder and Executive Director Shahinda Ismail is currently residing in Germany while various others have departed from Maldives.
